T5 Tek Light bulb life...

I just got my new "prized" Tek Light that my wife has no idea of the cost and I noticed it said the T5 bulbs had a life of 20000 hours. They claim to also have a much slower lumen loss and spectral shift than other bulb types on the market. I figured if I burn the bulbs for 12 hours a day for 20000 hours that's basically 4.5 years of operation between bulb changes. That’s much longer than EVERYONE out there seems to be telling me. In fact the guys at the lighting company said to change them every 1.5 to 2 years. Does this seem a bit out of whack?

For Industrial applications T5 go about 5 years. Ice Cap estimates the Blueplus, Aquablue or actinic at 18 months but they originally estimated daylights or suns to go 24 months but now say they should go 3 to 4 years.
