Recently I broke down the 65 and combined it in with my 135. Tank looks great now with tons of rock in it. but....The corals are all bunched up under my 65's old light, on one side of the 135. So I gotta do something with the lighting. But I knew this. After much debate, I've decided to go with MH. I'm going to do the ice cap 250w retro jobbers with the spider reflector and 20,oook pheonix bulbs. With cost being a factor here, these will get the job done and give the best bang for my buck. I'm not actually doing a canopy, but more of a hanging type ummmmm, canopy?? Planing on leaving it up about 12in from the surface. I'll do 2-250 MH, with 4 T5 superactinics, and 6 moonlights. Then 4- 4in fans in the canopy .....thingy
2 blowing in and 2 blowing out. I DONT want to end up needing a chiller though, so raising it up a couple more inches isnt an issue. The room it's in now gets rather warm in the summer, but I'll probably add another vent from the A/C to the room to accomodate these. I'll part out my T5 light in order to use the ballasts etc for the actinics. Then add Ice cap individual reflectors for them.
I'm just wanting a check here that what I'm doing is going to work, work out any bugs that might come up. Possibly change my plan if need be to accomodate. I'll get these coming this week if all goes right. Personally, I dont see a problem with just doing 2 -250's as the tank is 24 in deep. My concern is if I'll get an even pattern with the 2 reflectors spaced 20in. in from both ends to center. Seems as though it should cover fine. The tank is an oceanic reef ready 135 with corner OF's. Most all the rock is stacked between these OF boxes. BTW.... I can get these 2 Ice cap retro jobbers for less than a 6' 12 lamp T5 fixture.
Heres a quick pic, the brown loops is going to be fishnet with doo da's to dress it up.
