well i traded some frags with a friend around the block from me he has a 265G sps tank but he has all named or LE corals in it... he was nice enought to trade me for some of my corals
take a look at what i got some are really nice pieces

i got the following from him:
pink jade
steve elias blue stag
purple loiseta stag
green with baby blue tyree cap
idaho grape cap
blue matrix
some other random stag frag thats named but i didnt remember
and a nice dark blue gomezi frag (not in picture already mounted)
i think i got hooked up nicely considering the blue matrix goes for $100 a frag and is hard to find

I know Murph, I was just busting your chops. It is fun to share your excitement, I love getting new stuff too. Every time I post pics though of new specimens, I go through some little problem. Just had two RTN on me this past week, I think(knock on wood) one of them I was able to save(fragged it in to about 5 pieces, all are still OK), the other was gone in a matter of hours.
. Pieces were healthy the night before. I wish I could afford or even find "named" stuff in my area. Maybe someday?? You definitely have some A+++ hookups. Awesome frags, I'm totally jealous, if you haven't figured that out yet. Keep up the excellent work, I'm sure you've inspired more than myself to try and keep as nice of a tank.

u know the major issue i ever find with sps corals is alk fluctuations either going too low or too high ... on my tank as soon as alk drops to and below 8dkh things start acting up... first tips get stringy and slowly die back.. i try to keep alk at around 9-10 dkh now for that reason... sps are tricky at times... they just really like clean water some nice light and water movement
out here in so cal its a lil easier to get sps corals lots of sellers out here and lots of sps reefers too

Thanks for the info Murph, I don't think it was that though, water is very stable and Alk I maintain at 4.5 meq/L, a little higher than 10dkh, not much. The only change I noticed was a small temp. change, maybe 2 degrees, don't know how quickly it went up, but again that is usually not a big issue. Tank is staying at 77, now. I guess with our weather in the fall the house can get warm with out the AC running or the heat on in the night. I think I got it under control now, fingers crossed.
Keep up the great job on your tank.

thanks matt...
temp hasnt affected my tank too much it will swing from 78-81 during summer but nothing that affects the corals
liek i said the only thing that ever affects my corals is when my alk drops to around 8dkh or lower then they act funny...
thanks for the kinds words and u do the same with ur tank....

Yeah, I know it is usually not a big deal with me either, it was two of the new ones I got(one aquacultured and one maricultured), they were totally fine for a week then overnight, BAM, skin peeling when the lights came on at 10am, I was freaking out, I'm sure you know the feeling. Oh well, I got credit for them so it wasn't a total loss. Thanks again.

i totally know what ur talkin about... when i first started sps i was using a salt called Via Aqua Ocean Pure Pro salt.... anyways little to my knowledge this salt contained high levels of Borate which is an addative used to help stablaize the Alk and Ca in the Pro salt to keep it from coming out of solution...
well Borate is measured on your Alk test kit since Borate is part of total Alkalinity... so u really have to remove your Borate measurement from the alkalinity test to see what your total usable alkalinity is... normal salt like Tropic Marin which i am using now has a Borate measurement of .9 so you would minus that from your salifer test results... meaning if test came back at 9dkh its really 8.1dkh without Borate
well the Via Aqua had a Borate level of almost 2 so i used to run my alk around 8-8.5 thinking i was fine which really meant taking out the Borate it was 6-6.5dkh too low and causing alk burn to my croals and over time killing many corals
yeah i do know what ur talkin about lol

i only laid them there in the beggining for an hour or so until i had time to mount but they are all up and healthy... it would take a few days for the corals to start sufferin on the sand...
thanks for the advice though
