My Purple Tang, Francis, who is otherwise healthy, seems to have a cataract in one eye. It is not a bubble... more like a cloudy eye. Any ideas? I do have a qt tank... but not sure what would help if anything. Beginning of popeye?

Melafix treats cloudy eye, and pop eye. My friend and I have always used Melafix for this kind of disease. Hope that helps.

Tanks. What causes it and do I need to QT the Tang? Seems this would stress him out... no LR to swim in, around and behind in the hospital tank. Will it get beter on it's own?
50 gal long, 80+lbs LR, 100lbs LS

Well you could put the melafix in you tank w/ the tang. Melafix does no harm to inverts or fish. Just watch your skimmer if you have one, it ill over flow within seconds(all the bubbles). I'm not sure why melafix does this but it has worked for me. It will also leave the room with a minty smell.

DON'TTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes it says it's reef save or whatever, but it's not. Immidiately after I put Melafix, all my corals shrink and my leather stay shrinked for two days and produces mucus. I did this more than once (you thought I learned my lesson the first time, uh uh), so it's not only a coincidence.
If you can put it in the hospital tank, and dose Melafix. I think it is some sort of bacterial infection. I'm not entirely sure. But Melafix should be able to help. Read the instruction.
Hope that helps...

Thanks all. Actually it was cleared up (on it's own the next day). I did do a large water change. Hmmmm. Also, I don't have corals. Could I use this treatment in the main tank (should I need to):
50 gal long, 80+lbs LR, 100lbs Natures/Ocean & other LS, Fluval 304, modified Skilter... 3 Pepperment Shrimp, 12 hermits, 7 snails, 1 serpent star, 1 red sea purple tang, 2 percula (common) clowns, 1 yellow head sleeper goby, 1 scooter blenny, 1 royal gramma.

Well if you don't have corals, it's okay to use this medicine. It's actually recommended on the box, to put Melafix the first couple of days of adding new fish. It's good for bacterial infection. As long as I remember, it is safe for snails and my cleaner shrimp. It's just corals that don't like it.
I'm glad that it cleared up. I hope I somewhat helped you, because I think I responded to your post a week ago about not getting replies. I hope you feel better now. And of course your fish feels better :D .
