I know you live in the Jacksonville area. Some friends of ours who annually vacation in Destin, just found out that their condo was destroyed and much of the area is still under major clean up.
Is Ameilia Island a nice place to head to for the week? Or is it pretty crowded still the 2nd week of August? All they want is a nice condo on the beach and a pool. They have 3 kids and are so used to Destin (too busy for me....) that they are nervous about trying something else.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

Funny, but I've only been Ameilia Island a couple of times. It's a smaller town with older values. It's a hot spot when they have the big tennis match there. I've been down to the beach, but I don't remember how crowded it was at the time. The other time was during the shrimp festival which is pretty crowded, but it's a special event. You may want to look online and see what all they have to offer. I know it is a popular area, I just don't know enough about it to help. Sorry.
A popular thing that people like to do is book a bed and breakfast around St. Augustine. Lot's of history to see and the beach. It's a little further South obviously, but it puts you closer to other things they may want to do. Daytona is about 45 Minutes away, Cape Canaveral is only about an hour and a half South, Disney land is about an hour and a half also.
Hope that helps some, but probably not.

Bed and Breakfast sounds great.....but 3 kids :needhelp: not this trip at least.

We head to Indian Shores every year the same time. Much calmer by then and our kids love it. They are very interested in our condo complex but the only draw back is the 17 hour drive from St. Louis. We are used to it, they are used to the 13 to Destin.
I checked some sites out on the web. Kind of reminds me of a small town in Main I used to go to as a kid. I will just have them do a major search.
Thanks for the info!

No problem. My only problem with knowing much about vacationing in Florida is I "leave" Florida for my vacations.
