Tangs in short tanks? What do you think?

I have a 65 gallon aquarium 18"deep, 36"length, and 21" in height. I have been collecting corals for a while now but hardly have any fish-only a clown, magnificant foxface, and royal gramma. I am really want more reef safe fish. I would love to have a tang, I like many kinds...my lfs advised me that all tangs would be have a hard time in my tank because it is short, running into its walls alot?
Any of you that have tangs - have you experienced this problem? Please send any advise-I am desperate for input...!

Do a bit of research on Tangs. They all grow too large for your tank.
In addition, yes they need a lot of swimming room.

I think a 36" tank is too small for a tang. I am not an official member of the tang police. I kept a Regal Tang in an 80 gallon (was closer to 90 when running the numbers) tank for over three years. It was a 48" tank. Didn't seem to have any problems. Fish seemed happy, very plump and energetic. Gave it away (the tang) after I finished school and had to move. So, I am not one of those who say you must have at least a 6 foot tank to support a tang.
Having said that, I think the bigger the better. Some of the tangs get quite large. Some, if not all, are prone to getting stressed. Just imagine yourself being being in an overcrowded one room apartment. You might get a little skittish after awhile. Get a bigger tank before you get a tang. You and your fish will be much happier.
