tangs, tangs and more tangs

it seems that i'm drawn to the tangs more than any other fish for my 75 gallon reef tank.
i have had a sailfin tang for several months now and he is best buddies with a fuji fox face. i recently introduced a yellow-eyed kole tang and although shy, all is compatible.
I would like to get a yellow tang (or two, my local pet store has to beautiful yellow tangs that have been together for a while).
How would the yellow tang(S) mix with the sailfin and kole tang?

No tangs in a tank that small you should get rid of them all. The sailfin tang can get to the size of a dinner plate and needs like a 250 gallon to be healthy. So maybe you could keep the kole but, no others.

I would strongly suggest against adding any more tangs to this tank. I think you'll see a lot of problems in terms of aggression as they mature. Assuming the sailfin is a juvenile, plan to upgrade within the next two years or find the fish a larger home. A kole would be okay for the long haul in your tank, but avoid cramming it full of large active fish.

I've never done this but was wondering if it could be done. I have a RO but the water is so bad I have trouble keeping filters for it. Here is a pic of my tank. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it look better? It's the begining of a reef. Just getting started. I need lots of advice. Any pros in here need a student? I learn fast and take advice well. I have lots more rock almost ready to put in.

You already started your own thread about this topic . Don`t hijack someone elses thread .

Only as a juvenile , once it gets bigger the 75 will be too small .

Watch out for the Tang police. It seems tangs can only be kept in something the size of a large pond or the ocean LOL j/k

How I see it, these numbers are only recommendations, and you can do what you will with those recommendations. Not all fish follow the general rules, some Tangs will swim all over, but some might not really swim at all. Listen to the opinions of those on this site because most are very inteligent and have a lot of experience in the field, then use your best judgement to determine what you would like to do.

Thank you to all for your replys. I have found it most helpful and insightful. I am planning on upgrading my tank over the next year to year and a half. 75 is the starter size (i know know how my wife feels about that, but time will tell, lol)
My sailfin tang is not very active due to his buddy the fiji foxface. In fact, the sailfin and the fiji foxface hang out side-by-side almost constantly. The foxface is very immobile and likes to hide behind the rock work, his buddy the sailfin is right there by his side. I dont' know if he is actually not roaming a lot because of the foxface or if the tank is too small. I will monitor this closer now that i have more information on the tang culture.

Yeah sorry sailfins get huge, kole will be ok but all tangs would do better will more swimming room and lots of flow to swim in. You will hear many people saying their tangs are fine in a smaller tank but it's hard to believe when you read about people with huge tanks 180+ getting rid of tangs that seem cramped or not buying certain ones due to how large they get.

I noticed my foxface would always follow around my harlequin tusk. Like he was looking to the tusk to be the courageous one and show him around the tank

i think tangs should be housed in a 3gallon picto. n e ways for a 75 here is what you can do. 1 hippo,1 lemonpeel, kole, purple, yello, powder blue, powder brown, achilles pick one not sail fin way to big gets ugly its so big . people on this sight this is what i hate when it comes to tangs. if i have a 100gallon and i post a pic and it has 2 tangs you guys would flame. chill with the tangs lol i mean damn. you can house a tang in a 55 if u wanted to and it would be fine.

As a juvenile , but once it grows it will need more area . Many tangs get big fast and need more than a little 55 or 75 .

This is not even close to being accurate, so please, to anyone else reading, do not follow this advice. Tangs are open water swimmers and need at least a 6 foot tank to thrive. Can they live in a 55 or a 75? Yes, of course they can live, but they will not be healthy for long. Picture yourself living in a closet for your whole life and you will see what that means. You can live for sure, but it will not be a good life and you will not thrive.

I'm not disagreeing with your point but I hate this analogy, (and it's used all the time). We all keep our fish in small environments relative to their natural habitat. So to claim that keeping a tang in a 75 gallon tank is like a person living in a closet, yet feeling great about a tang in a 125 is pretty strange to me. Really, this would only be like a person living in a slightly bigger closet.
Please people, can we please stop with the "people living in a closet" comparison. It is meaningless and unpersuasive IMO.

Right on, crimzy. A single Clown in a 72 tank is only a fraction of what they occupy in nature. We're all sticking our fish into little boxes, so put away the righteousness unless you have an Olympic swimming pool sized tank for a couple of Tangs. Not all Tangs are created equal either. I would maintain that a Yellow Tang would do fine in a 75, assuming the tank is not packed with rock and overstocked.

Not really , Clownfish in the wild only wonder within a few feet from their anemone , coral , or whichever they host .
