They do have the same body shape but they are from a different genus. I personally have never mixed the two but I can tell ya they are both hard to keep. The Hippo is hardier fish. Poweder Blues often succumb to illnesses very easily. How big is the Hippo you have now and how big of a powder blue do you plan on adding. Personally, I think you should have one or the other. Powder Blues often do well when they are the only tang in the tank. And what other fish do you already have in your tank? TJ

my luck with powder blues is horrible, I have tried two in my 125, but each time they magically got ick, and i had to pull them out an nurse them back to health in my quarintine tank, and then give em back to the fish store. But hey good luck, they do look beautiful in an established tank, and are very active fish. I would just make sure that the hippo and powdered blue are about the same size, if not the powder vlue being bigger. Hippos, in my experience are kind of shy towards other tangs, but who knows. Good luck!

i would agree that hippos are more shy than other tangs. I am getting a powder blue soon as well...he's the size of a half dollar. I am going to have him till I move and then I'm going to sell him back to the LFS.

You CANNOT have a Powder Blue and Orange-shoulder together. They are from the game genius and have the same body shape. I think you're just asking for trouble there. Yes Orage-shoulder tangs are docile, but Powder Blues aren't and it will fight with the Shoulder tang. Even though the Orange-shoulder is in there first, soon the Powder Blue will be fighting with it. I mean, it could possible work, but the odds are against you. TJ

It is possible because I've kept a Powder Brown and 2 hippos together in a 70. I think you have a good shot so take a chance.
