right now in my 300 gallon tank i have 2yellow tangs, 1 purple tang,1 atlantic blue tang, 1hippo tang, 1unicorn tang, 1clown tang and a powder blue tang. the clown tang was aggressive towards the powder blue but now they seem to get along. just curious if a sohal tang would get along with the tangs i have now?

with tangs its all a risk, and just wait till the tang police get ahold of you!!! (Its ok, I have a sailfin, a powder blue and a powder brown in one a 75 gal)

I think you have too many as it is....my sohal dominates my tank, it would def be a problem with a clown tang in the tank

i wouldnt add another tang to the 300. u hv 8 already, and thats too many to begin with. i would just sit back and let ur current tangs grow and thrive.

I agree that you're pretty well maxed out, but even if you didn't have quite so many tangs in there already, the sohal and clown tang would really have a go of it...

Saleen - I have seen many Sohals do very well in 300's before. My LFS in NorCal has 2 in a 380 DT and they get along with the Nasos and Vlamingis. Personally I think that you have room for another. The one thing that you have to be weary of is that they can be 50/50 on their attitude. Your clown is less aggressive than a sohal, but not by much.
I think that a naso would be a nice addition to the tank.

The general rule is only one from each family. They will fight with their look alikes. I have seen hippos, and yellows in odd number schools in large enough tanks get along.

Other then that it's all rushian rullet.

You are lucky. The Powder Blue and purple don't gang up and start killing now.
If you put another something is going to get its fins ripped off.

quit picking fights, sh2000. if you want to post something like that, at least do it in your own thread.
Saleen, with a healthy clown tang, i wouldn't risk another Acanthurus tang.

I will definitely be surprised if the powder blue and the clown get along forever. Acanthurus are the most aggressive tangs (yes, in the wild, even more so than zebrasomas), especially the big ones like sohal and clown.

I did start my own thread it's not a fight ill go with the long beach aquarium over the "tang police" I just found my proof welcome hippo tangs to my 120.. if they have 50 -100 in the 400 i guess 5 will be a nice school in my 120.

Let's tone down the rediculousness just a bit...
Just because they have a boat load of tangs in that tank doesn't mean you should do the same.

As soneone who has worked in an aquarium, NEVER assume they have those tangs long term. They may replace them constantly. I know we did. We had about 24 purple tangs in a 3500g tank, and they beat the snot out of each other. It was brutal. But they have the budget to replace them all the time. If you have that budget, by all means, good luck.
There have been two fish in my life that I have been afraid of, and mind you I worked with sharks, piranha, and electric eels.
One was a queen trigger, and the other was a sohal tang that was mean as ANYTHING. The queen was unpredictable....the sohal was completely predictable and it would make a run and slash any time I put my hand in there.
This is my opinion on the 300g. YOu have a lot of tangs, and some real prizes (Atlantic blue, powder blue and clown) as well as one that will really prove the 300g to be small (the unicorn).
I wouldn't add any more, because it would be SOOOOO easy to tip the balance and ruin it all. IMO you are now playing with fire from this point on, it is truly a delicate balance.

Always risky mixing acanthurus tangs as they can so aggressive...I did hear something interesting about Sohal Tangs the other day. I was talking to a LFS owner here in AZ about the Sohal (as I would like to have one in my 240), he said if I do, make sure it is from the Red Sea, not the Indian Ocean as his experience are that Indian Ocean ones are horribly aggressive....Don't know him very well, so take it with a grain of salt, just thought it was interesting.
