Like the title says, the black ground on my 180g wont stay on, its showing some huge bubbles thru the tank. My question is: Can i paint the back while the tank is running? Ofcourse i will take the necessary precautions not to get paint in the tank. Just want to know if i'm missing something. Thanks in advance.

You can so long as you are careful. I prefer a painted background myself, and usually go with blur to simulate the ocean. Make sure you cover everything you can.

I just used Fusion Krylon and it does come in a small can so you can use a small roller to apply it, I would be leary about spraying it on a running tank. I just did a 65 and it looks great. Good luck

Get a piece of plywood, a thin cheap flimsy piece, cut to fit the tank exact. Spray paint a solid color, swirls or whatever you want. Use Velcro across the top and bottom. You can even glue on a background to it. The Velcro looks like the rims of the tank and you won't even notice it, the sand on the bottom covers and the top is near invisible.

Experience …..is the greatest teacher. You should see some of the things I have done in the name of pretty fish tanks. I still like the rock foam background the best of all the things I have tried.
Men use duct tape...I use velcro

So I am just curious if you need to put some PH on the back will they stay on place with the plywood backing?

what I do is I use two sided tape and stick fabric on the back of the tank. Go to a local fabric store and pick out something cool, you'd be suprised at what you can find. At one time I had some that had dolphins on it and it was really cool. Right now I got a blue fabric with white streaks that looks rather ocean like. I like the fabric background cause its easy to change looks if you want, its cheap, and if you start to get some salt creep, you can just throw it in the laundry and put it back on when its dry.
Just my 2 cents worth
