I was told that a tank bred clown may not know to go to an anenome..... Is this true??? It seems like it would be a natural instinct.

I believe I have read that after the metimorphisas(sp) stage it's is quite natural to seek the protection of an anemone, but thats in the wild, not sure about tank raised. Still I believe there is a natural behavior that takes place and it would be easier to have a particular type of anemone that normally hosts it. it just might take longer, or never happen at all.

I think clowns know to seek refuge in an anemone just like a baby knows to cry when it gets hurt. It is going to do what comes naturally to it. If it feels threatened or even if it doesn't, it will seek out the safest place for it to be.

Some will, others won't. Totally depends on the individual fish. My TR Perculas could care less about my anemone and freely roam throughout the tank.
In general, tank raised clowns will be less likely to host an anemone than a wild caught fish. This is probably because they have never seen one before and the instinctive drive may not be as strong when they are late juvenile/early adults. Just my theory.
