Hello,
I have a 200 gallon fresh water tank which I am converting into saltwater by christmas. I currently have 2 saltwater tanks opperational now (75g, and 55g). I have 580lbs of argonite sand (including 120lbs of live sand full of critters) and also have 240lbs of live rock. Here are my questions.
1. Is a 6" sandbed too deep?
2. Is a downdraft skimmer the way to go for a 200 gal tank? I feel that I didnt go with a good skimmer on my smaller tank and dont want to make that mistake again. If anyone knows of a really good skimmer that easily handles 200 gal tank that is as good or close to being as good and more reasonably priced, let me know.
3. I have a 2' X 2' piece of glass for support on the top middle section of my tank which I will have to remove so the middle MH will do its job. Has anyone ever used a stainless brace across the tank in a couple places to save room?
4. I have about decided to go with the Aquamaster 3000 pump. I will plumb it so there is as little head pressure as possible. Will this be enough circulation for the corals to lead a healthy life?
5. The tank will only be 20" deep to the top of the sand (if i stay with approx 6" sand). Will 3 250w iwasakis 6500k and 6 VHOs be enough light or should i shoot for something in the 400 watt range?
I am sorry to fill up so much space but i dont want to make a critical error that kills everything in the tank.
Thanks,
Jeremy
