tank mates for clown trigger ?

the clow trigger is IMO the most eye catching fish that we can keep in a home aquarium and perhaps the fish the fish with the most personality. The downside from what i have read is that they are very aggressive and make alot of mess: meaning that if i put a clown in my 240 G tank i will be very limited with regards to selecting tank mates. The thought of having only 1 fish in a 240 G system is simply not very appealing , I would like at least 2 more tank mates .
how would these fish go as tank mates with a clown in a 240 G
emp angel
snowflake or zebra eel
australian tusk
green bird wrasse
yellow tang
blue hippo tang
any other suggestions would be much appreciated

I completely agree with you about the CT.Mine is in with a juvi-koran,a humu humu,a 6 line wrasse, and 2 ocellaris clowns..He was the last addition to my tank about 3 months ago,and is about the size of a silver dollar.I had a tang i traded in to get him.My system is a 125,but will be upgrading in a year to a 8 foot 180 custom in wall..I have heard all the stories of these guys just snapping one day,but what the heck, they are awesome.Of the fish you listed,i would be most worried about the tangs not holding their own,but who knows..

There are no guaranteed safe fish with a Clown Trigger. Here is what Fenner writes about it on Wetwebmedia...
"Get one small, and feed it sparingly... and keep your eye on it and your other livestock... this is an Alpha Alpha species that typically takes over a system of any size... and woe be to the tankmates that don't get and stay out of its way."
If I were to have a 240 gallon and wanted a CT and 2 other fish, I would do a Sohal Tang for sure, and either a Passer Angel, or Maculosus Angel.....I would still put the Sohal in last, even with a CT, the Sohal would likely be the dominant fish.
The fish you list are all "tough", but IMO, not "Clown Trigger tough".

My clown tigger is in a 135 gallon with a pink tail trigger, blue throat trigger, yellow tang, maginficent foxface and to perc clowns and a jewell damsel. he was the last one added to the tank two months ago. The pink tail is the alpha fish at this point but he has been in there for 1 year now. this could all change but everyone gets along just fine.

So far my clown trigger has grown extremely fast but is otherwise a model citizen. Hasn't initiated any agression with other fish and as far as mess, he occasionally digs in the sand but it's not bad.
