Tank placement

Can you place a tank in front of a window as long as you keep the blinds closed and the rear of the tank is covered to prevent light from coming thru

You can but remember that light will still permiate most blinds. I did have to keep a tank in front of a window once because it was the only place it could go. I used room darkening shades but still found the algae growth to be accelerated compared to when it was not in front of the window with that being the only changed variable.
Also take into consideration where you live and the climate. Windows will allow alot more temperature fluxuations than a solid wall. If you live somewhere that has more defined seasons, you will have to be more diligent in making sure that your temps in the tank remain steady, which can be a huge task.

I have my 125 gallon tank in front of a small window on the back and the same size window on the right hand side..My back is blacken out so light is able to come threw, I live up north, cold country so this time of year we don't get much sun light, but I do open my blinds daily..I have VHO lights I keep both heaters at 76 degrees house temp is kept at 74 degrees tank temp stays at 79 degrees..I have no out of control algae growth..This is the first time I had my tank setup in this type of climate so guess I'll find out this spring and summer..IMO depends on what area of the country you live...You living in NC you have pretty much mild winters but you still get alot of sunlight so I would just keep your blinds closed and you should be OK..once warmer temps arrive take extra measures to keep sunlight out if you see a algae problem..what type of lighting are you running at present? Not so much for the algae problem but water temp..I pull my heaters out during warmer temps..keep that in mind when you have warmer weather...:)
