I'll be moving my 130gal. from 1st floor to my basement. The process will take a bit of time .(Lots of equipment) My question is , how much damage will occur to my LS and LR. and Caulerpa with no light and circulation for say 2-3 days? My fish wiil be in a smaller tank setup prior to the move.

:happyfish Don't worry this can take one day. I helped my brother out when he bought a 160 gal. and he had to combine 2 smaller tanks into one giant one. If it has to take 2-3 days, then I would say that no things won't be 100% My power went out this winter for 2 days, and everything was majorly pissed off. I lost a coral, and some coraline, and algae, and it I had battery backup for the heater. At least get heat, and a powerhead in there. I think that is REALLY risky. You CAN get it done in one day.

Use a powerhead for circulation and, as stated above, a heater and you should be ok. Good Luck.

I know 130 gallons is alot more than what i moved ,but i saved all the water in 5 gallon containers when i moved from 1 side of town to the other. I replaced all the water and yippee instant fish tank. I dont know if it was the "right way" of doing it ...but it worked for a FOWLR set up.:jumping:

Magooo, how did you move the fish and LR? I have a 30 gallon FOWLR and I need to move it 5 miles. I was thinking about putting the livestock in a 5 gallon bucket with tank water, the LR in another, the rest of the water in a couple more, and leave the cleanup crew in about 1/8 of the tank water still in the tank.

that sounds about right dcr. i've moved my 60 gallon across town twice in the last year. for me, i just left the fish in the tank, with about 15 gallons still in it. they did fine.
by the time i did my 2nd move i had gained over 15 corals. for corals, i would recommend trying to isolate them as much as possible. see if you can find tupperware or somethin.

Thats exactly how I did it....Put all the rock in one of the washed 5 gallon containers w / water. I kept the fish in a seperate bucket. I left the cleaning crew in the bottom of the tank which was barely covered. Took about 25 min to get to there new home. I just replaced the water and dropped them all back in . I never lost an Item:jumping:

here's a weird thing that also happend...
after the 2nd move, my damsel became a lot more socially active. he stopped hidin out in the upper corners and has been hanging out with all the other feesh ever since.
that water got pretty stirred up when the tank was in the back of my truck. lots of potholes on the road for that trip. maybe he just needed to get shaken up a bit.

Well, after the move, things seem to be returning to normal. The water was really murky from the water entry and sand stirring, but I had to toss the fish straight in due to the Angel looking like he was about to die. Today, the tank has settled and the fish are looking good.
