I have a 55 gal. tank that is flourishing that was bought used and I had nothing to do with the set-up.However I have recently purchased a 125 gal tank and wish to make it a reef tank.I have 160 lbs. of cured live Fiji rock,192 lbs. of live Fiji sand & aragonite in a 50/50 mix as substrate, and 4 rows of h.o. lights. My questions are: What brand/size of powerheads should I get?How many powerheads should I get?Where do the powerheads "draw" hook to?Do the powerheads just hang in the tank?Should I get a wet/dry system,or canister,or nothing? What kind of skimmer can I have that is not visible to the viewing area of the tank?I need specifics here.I have been to countless stores and get so many different answers,I want to hear from someone that has a tank of similar size that has employed the equiptment in question and had success.I think this is a great forum,I wish I had found it earlier,it would have saved me several dollar bills.Thank-you for your patience.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD,,,For a tank that size, there is no better setup than a sump under the tank. This will solve a couple of your problems right off.It will provide a place to HIDE your skimmer, heater, and any other equiptment you don't want to see in the main tank. You will also need an overflow box to get the water out of the tank into the sump. And a return pump...You can search the BB for more sump info(there is plenty)You will need at least two fairly large powerheads to provide circulation.I have Haggen PH's.They have been running 47/7 for over a year now with no problems...
