Tank Size Help

I'm going to end up building a tank most likely and i was wondering if 20" For the height is too short. Considering out of those 20", 5" would go for the DSB. The tank is gonna be 48" long by 30" wide. It'll be around 125 G. So is that too short? I'm planning on keeping lions, eels, a yellow tang, coral maybe but later down the road.

I like the 24 inch tall tanks myself especially with a DSB. It just looks better.

If it will become a reef someday, 24" is good. You dont want a real tall tank fot a reef, because it is harder for the corals to get a good amount oflight

The thing is if it's 24"+ ( I originally wanted 30") I'll have to use 3/8" thick acryllic. If it's 20" i could use 1/2" thick acryllic and price wise it makes a big difference..........
So 20" minus whatever the DSB ends up being is what i'm considering as of now. Is that too shallow for a lion?

the higher the tank , really the stronger light you would need if you are keeping coral unless you would place all the coral on top.
my tank is 34'' high. thats practicaly the reason why i have strong lights.
but a 20'' high tank is fine to my opinion....

If you are going to go with a 20, I would only put at the most 2 inches of sand. What type of lion are you going with? If the tank is 20 inches - 5 inches of sand. will be a little tight for the bigger lions especially if you add rock.

I had a 100 gallon that was 20". I also had a 4" DSB that's 16" left over.
then put your DSB in a seperate tank (refugium).
This would be better if you could. Only a couple inches in the display.
BTW- with that foot print and hight you will have no problems with keeping the O2 up.

So i could have like a 2" sand bed on my display tank and like a 6" on a 20-30G fuge and it would still be helpful with the filtration?

What did you mean by that? As in bad or good?

O2 is a good thing. With a big foot print and shallow water you will have more gas exchange.
