Tank size question

So, as my 5 gallon is quickly reaching equilibrium, or the point where i feed fish, clean tank, and change water, oh and watch the fish... my next tank is on the horizon. My question is what is the best best tank as far as what I can put in it both coral and fish-wise. My choices are 37 gal,38 gal, 40 breeder, or possibly a 55. I say possibly a 55 because I want to do stony coral and lighting gets way more expensive as you go deep like a 55 and as you go 4 feet long.
37 gal is a taller 29 gallon, 30 inch x 12 x 22, i don't think this is a great choice as fish dont swim up and down, they swim horizontally.
38 is 36x12x19. Basically a 45 gallon with a foot cut off. This seems reasonable, but the 12 inch front to back depth seems limiting anyone chime in there?
40 breeder is 36x18x16. Its not as tall so wont present as pretty a "face" of the tank, but the 18 inch front to back depth is very nice for putting rock in and the like.
The 55 is similar to the 38 in being 12 inches front to back but maybe the fact that it is 4 feet makes up for that.
Wish i could just jump to the 72x24x24 of my dreams but money is what it is and my boat isnt for sale ;)

My 40G breeder was my absolute favorite tank! I think nano reefs look the nicest in them!
Here's my 40G breeder tank:
