29 would seem fine...how many ponys are we talking? they need stuff to hold on to...usually pipe fish are in the same tank as them.

I hate to be the cheap one here but WalMart sells a decent 55 gal for abtou 160.00. You still have to add some externals but the tank size would suite your seahorses quite wel..

bud on tap dont feel cheap. A tank is a tank, as long as its glass it doesnt matter where you get it. Its always helpful to save money.

my friend 160 is really high for a 55 gallon tank. i can get the here with lid and lights for 89 bucks. now if that 160 includes the stand ....now where talking about a deal. that sounds about right.i would also recommend that you look in the paper. you will find people selling tanks and some people going out of business that will be tring to get rid of all inventory rally cheap. if you are only dont sea horse i would say ruffly about a 29 gallon would be just fine. just remember the smaller the tank the less room for error. so water quality has to be monitored more than usual

I had my four tank raised horses in a 29 gallon TALL aquarium. Horses dont need width as much as they do height, especially if you have a mated pair. If you do purchase a mated pair, inthe morning, after the lights come on they will swim towards one another, grasp tails, and circle the tank while rising in the water column. I had tons of fiji branching rock in my tank so that they could grab on to stuff, and also had a dense growth of Caulerpa, as it harbored the little copeopods and crustaceans that they ate and hunted all day. I loved my tank and my horses they are definately one of the coolest and most unique fish in the ocean. Whatever size you do plan on, make sure you get teh tallest one you can. Sometiems youll have to special order one, but the happiness of the animals far outweighs the extra cost!
good luck

Go to seahorse.org . someone posted the link a while back. I think they say the ideal size and lots of other good info. One by itself might get lonely. I've always seen at least two together
