Tank Water Current: Random or Ordered Direction?

Hi,
I'm curious to know whether your powerheads in your tank are supplying ordered one-way circular current flow or randomly in different directions?
I'm guessing random is good....but why if this is so??

Wether you are using one,or multiple powerheads it is best to set them up so they do NOT turn your tank into a whirlpool. So,a random or cross current is better than a circular current pattern.

How do you go about making the flow random? Right now my return spout shoots the water out into the tank in the same spot. I now have some small sand drifts in places. Is this bad for my live rock and overall setup??

I have mine slightly angled up to break the surface water and allow gas to escape. The rest gets plenty of water from from the turnover rate on my sump.

you want different currents, and water movement, in most areas, especially around the lr, this will also help to keep debris from settling on your lr
saltyjay, you should have more than one, probably 3 would probaly be good onyour size tank
HTH and good luck

I have two. One blowing acroos the tank and the other blowing in the same direction but poited up to make waves on the surface. I also get more circulation from my filter return.
