Tank Weight

I am looking at putting in a 300 gallon tank in place of my 100. Does anyone have an idea if the weight of the tank (3000+ lbs) could be a problem for the floor? The house is a single story with a full basement. The house is very well built, but I didn't know if there was a general rule of thumb to follow. I was also looking at a 525 but I think thats a little too big for the space. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

:) don't forget to add some support to the joists that are going to support the tank. you may also need to add vertical posts into the equation. much cheaper to add the support than to pay for the repair job.

That is a tough question 3000 #'s is alot of weight. Is the basement finished?
I assume your putting it on yhe main floor.
I would definatly look at adding some columns in the basement!!
If its unfinished then no problem you can buy adjustable metal columns from home depot.

The answer to your question is ... if the house has 3/4 sub flooring and 1/2 plywood for the finish..and the floor joist on an 16 inch center and if the floor joist is2 by 8s` it will carry it, no problem

Thanks for the responses. I just checked and the flooring is 16" on center with 2x10 running parallel to the length of the tank. So it looks like the 300 gallon should be ok. Wonder about the 525? :D
I would rather not do the floor support since the basement is finished.

Yeah I know that the boards should run perpendicular but there is really only one good place for the tank and it happens to be in a direction parallel to the beams... :(
