i have had my tank up and running for 4 days now and i have a raw shrimp in the tank to start the cycle. the shrimp has been in the tank for 4 days and is starting to decompose. i took a sample of water to the lfs and they told me that amonia nitrits and nitrates are all 0. is this normal or is something not working right. i kinda thought i would get an amonia spike by now but you guys know more than i do so any tips or help would be a big help

hi,
you are going to want to buy a test kit, if you dont have one,
you should see an amonia spike after about a week-week 1/2, some tanks take longer.
you can throw another shrimp in...BUT only one more. You may not need to, it just may be a metter of waiting a few more days.
you will need these test kits: (some brands people dont like, just so you know)
ammonia
nitrate
nitrite
pH
these are a MUST!!! this is because down the road you may have problems and the LFS wont be open and you may loose all your live stock...
goodluck!
