tankmates for dogface?

hey guys... i'ts been a while since i've visited this board. i've been in australia for the last 3 months. When i left my dogface was a little under 3 inches. now he's around 6. i had no idea they grew that quickly. I kinda wonder if something happened to him while i was away and the person taking care of him replaced him with another much larger puffer (you know like your mom used to do with goldfish) ;)
anyway, after diving in the GBR, i came home and realized i have one empty looking tank. The fish i would like to add are: Miniatus grouper, Aust. Harlequin tusk, and some kind of eel. (suggestions) I would like to add a volitan lion, but am leary of the puffer picking on it's fins, so i'll probably leave that one out.
Do you think this combination would work? My tank is 260g with close to 300lbs LR. so space and hiding places shouldn't be a problem.
Any input or other ideas would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks!

Welcome back! What you want to do will work fine me thinks. For the eel I would go either Snowflake (good choice not expensive) or Golden tail (if you can find one somewhat rare at times). Snows are about 20 bucks around here and the Golden I found was 80 (but worth every dollar). I would guess someone fed that Dog pretty darn well while you wre gone to gain that much length in that 3 months.

sounds like a nice setup you are gonna get. for the miniatus, if cash aint a problem, i would try to get my hands on a red sea specimen as they have the deepest reds and brightest electric blues i have seen. i also second pl on the goldentail moray. they are incredibly beautiful, and just like the snowflake as they are very hardy and never miss a meal. but if you cant afford a goldentail you could always look into other species like zebra, chainlink, and some others (my favorite eel is a tesselata, but they need large tankmates that they cant eat, and usually need a solitary tank) bo

I picked up the aust. harlequin tusk this weekend. he ate a few ghost shrimp within an hour of being placed into the quarintine tank so i'll take that as a sign of good health. As far as the eel goes, i'm leaning toward the goldentail but want to look into a few other species first.
Grouperhead: thanks for the advice on the red sea miniatus. I will definately go that route.

coconut, if you need to know where to find a red sea miniatus, i know of a website that has them. they also have goldentailed morays. if you want the site, you can email me Bo2442@aol.com. how big is your new tusk? man, im jealous of your setup :D . bo

Grouperhead: i may drop you a line about that site. There is a new lfs that opened up about a month ago in my area that i try to give as much buisness to as i can. (it's got to be rough opening up a store with that much overhead) plus they are one of the only stores in my area who are concerned about doing it "right" rather than just making a buck. hopefully they can special order me one. If not, i'll let you know. The tusk is about 4 and a half inches long with LOTS of electric and deep blues. (already has blue teeth) I paid $85 which i thought was a good deal. they had him priced at $120. I spend quite a bit in their store so they always shave a little off my purchases. Good buisness if you ask me...
Again, thank you very much for the referance.

what a deal! you got an aussie for 85? wow, around here they usually run 120+. i can totally agree on you with wanting to support a lfs, as i majorly support mine. the more buisness you do, the more they will help you. im also glad to here they are in it for the hobby, not the almighty dollar. bo
