Ok so right now I have a 55 gallon tank. I am looking to go to a 300 gallon in a couple years but would like to move up to that slowly. My question is, is there an intermediate tank size that I could use my 55 gallon tank for the filtration, but then also use this new tank later for the filtration system for my 300 gallon? I was thinking a 120 to 150 gallon? Thank you!

go with a tank that is anywhere form a 100 to 135 and that will be good enough for a 300, i alway use the rule of anything over 1/3 is a great filtration setup, and a 55 on a 130 would be great.

Dang, planning 120 gallon tanks in college. The only thing I was worried about in college that had the digits 1-2 in it were 12 packs. Kudos to you bud.

IMO - your 55 and your ~125 tanks woudl be great in-line additional tanks for your 300. You could have the 125 as the refugium and the could be separated by a ball valve for water changes, extra skimming, cheato, QT tank...etc.
