Tap water purifier

This is a general question in response to reading another post. Someone mentioned getting a "Water purifier for $28.95 that you just attaches to any faucet and treats 50-150 gallons of water and it works great."
Is this a safe why to add water in a tank or should a person stick with a RO supply? I have very little room to store water and go through quite a lot.

This is one of those questions that it depends on who you ask. As far as my 2 cents, all water changes and evaperation replacement that I have done in my 90 gallon since September of last year has been from a tap water purifier and I have had great results. The only RO water that has ever been in my tank is the water the LFS brought when he set up my tank.
