can i use tap water to " rinse " off my LR i have ordered once it arrives? I was planning on putting the 30lbs of LR in a tub of with 2 powerheads for 2 or 3 days before i put it in my new tank (28g HQI)
OR should i just put the LS and LR in new tank with di/ro water and let it cycle like that?
Im ordering fuji cured LR from SWF.

You must cycle the new l/r.
Do not use tap water with salt water tanks at all imo.
imo do the OR lol...

im defin. going to use di/ro water in the tank i was just asking about when my new LR gets here before i put it in the tank should i use tap water mixed to right salinity and let powerheads run (all this being in a plastic tub or something)to " clean" the LR or just set up my tank with LS, LR and let it cycle for a while.
Im getting the LR and LS from SWF. Fuji cured LR

I agree. I think you will be fine using salt mixed with tap to rinse or dip and shake your LR before you add it to your tank.

Do not use tap water out of the tap. Fill a bucket, dechlorinate/deheavymetalate etc. with a good tap water treatment, maybe even salt it to the normal SG and rinse off in that if you have to.
But why would you have to? You're buying live rock presumably because you want everything that comes with it. So why rinse when you can put all of that stuff right in your tank to cycle and grow? Even the dirt and crud on the LR can be valuable, and if it's really just crud, you can wash it off later.

Right, why do you want to rinse cured live rock.

The best approach is to use RO/DI water to cure the rock in.
Tap water can contain metals and other contaniments that can easily be transferred from your rock into your new tank.
do things right form the beginning to avoid unforseen issues later. After all, after what we pay for rock, why skimp a few bucks on water???

Shipped or uncured live rock should be scrubbed and rinsed before placing in a tank to cycle to remove excess detritus and decaying matter. Otherwise you could have a beastly ammonia spike.

Possibly, though you may need to ghost feed the tank to add an Ammonia source if their live rock is actually cured properly and you don't keep it out of the water for long.
RO water is "reverse osmosis". DI is "D-ionized". Types fo filtration to purify water.

wish i had rinsed my LR once when i transported it from the store to my house. the store clerk said it would be just fine wrapped up in the wet newspaper until i got it home. well it must have had a massive die-off cause my tank suffered a bad ammonia spike. i figure any living creatures will stay adhered to the rock during a gentle rinsing.
