Can someone explain to me what this is? Are tea partyers republicans, dems, in between, ...

I really have not paid much attention to them but have been hearing a lot about them lately so I guess I need to see who they are and what they stand for.

Thanks.

You may get as many differing opinions as responses.

The Tea Party Movement is a grass-roots assemblage of those who want our government to adhere more closely to the original intent of the constitution.

I think a lot of the Tea Party folks are disaffected Republicans but also others who are fed up with with DC.

I've seen from the inside what went on with the Republican party. That's why I laugh when people say the Republicans have moved to the right. I saw how the establishment treated "conservatives" in the party and I am not talking nut job right wingers, We are talking Reagan type conservatives. That's why I left the party. It was infested with country club types who are only interested in power. They would tolerate religious conservatives but god forbid you talk about cutting NPR, scaling back instead of bloating the federal department of education or dare mention right to work or paycheck protection.

I don't think the group are politicians at all, but conservative minded every-day people who are fed up with the direction the country is being taken, fed up with politics in general and feel that something needs to be said and done to turn the country around to embrace more conservative values.

Yeah, you bet that politicians will attempt to use this movement any way they can to gain points for their side, and, some side-show types, such as Palin and Beck, will sure enough do their best to make a buck off of the movement.

The hoopla behind the Tea Party members is gaining steam now that many states are running their respective Republican primaries. The biggest 'shocker' came when this O'Donnell woman beat out a very strong Republican candidate in the Delaware primaries. She sounds like a Sarah Palin wannabe, and will most likely get routed when going up against the heavily-favored Democrat incumbant. The Republicans are wincing at the notion that these individuals are 'taking seats' away from your hard-lined Republican candidates. The Tea Party group proudly beat their chest when this Scott Brown won his Senate seat for Massachusetts. They thought he'd be the first Poster Boy for the Tea Party movement, but so far he's become more of a Centrist, and has actually voted on many bills along with the Democrats. It'll be interesting to see which direction these people will 'lean' if they do in fact get elected to Congress. Personally, I think the old-timers In Congress will chew these newbies up and spit them out the minute they walk into the door.

What the Tea Party can do is change the direction of the Republican party. The power brokers would have to be blind not to see there is a uprising.

Hardlined? The RINO republican she beat, voted for cap and trade, was pro-abortion, and splintered off when the going got tough on the Iraq war. Heck he even voted for motion that would have setup a committee to look into Bush's impeachment. (it wasn't a vote of passage, but to recommend it to committee.) Sounds like just like a hardlined republican. You can look at the Florida's governors race too...

Ever hear the saying, "Power Breeds Corruption"? Like I said, this Scott Brown guy was supposed to be the first induction of the Tea Party to the hard-nosed Republican "Good Ole Boy" clan. You see how that turned out. These newbies won't have the power to make the changes you want them to. There won't be enough of them inducted in November (if any at all) to make that big of a change to the current Republican mantra. You actually think someone like this O'Donnell character is going to walk into the Senate and be respected like a Harry Reid or Edward Kennedy? How about that loon of a woman in Utah? Sorry, that 'Hope And Change' holds about as much muster as the song and dance you're getting from Obama.

You really don't get it. The power structure in the Republican party is going to be looking at a way to capitalize on the Tea Party. Only way that happens is if they change course and stop acting like Democrats if they do take congress back. With obama in the White house thats a pretty good bet because they aren't going to want to fund any of his big government programs just to be on the opposite side. The real test would be after 2012 if they get everything back like they had under Bush. Personally I am hoping a conservative Democrat jumps in against Obama in 2012. Someone like Bayh with a Republican congress would be interesting.

umm, well, I knew what Scott Brown was when he won... Not that he wasn't spun as some ultra-conservative... And of course they won't get the same "respect" as Harry Reid and Kennedy... That isn't the point... In fact the lack of "respect" is kind of the point. Because "respect" would mean that well they've turned into major players in the democrat party... Or sold out republicans in name only like Castle...

Power breeds corruption is a whole different ball of wax...
(btw is that why it seems most of the republican's veer left when they get into office? The power corrupts them...

If you don't get that "respect" in Washington, you don't get to join the other reindeers in their reindeer games. The Tea Party movement thinks they can elect a bunch of their 'members' into the Washington ranks, and they're going to see some dramatic change in the way things are done in that little world. If you honestly think that, then there's a place called FantasyLand over in Disney World Magic Kingdom you need to move to...

+1

Once the republican started spending like drunken democrats I lost interest in the party. Bigger government means fewer private jobs. Both parties are killing the job base (small business) in favor of growing big business (that outsources our jobs to India and China). Bigger business helps the gimme gimme people in the short term but in the long term it will fail, it always has. Tea Party isn't a political party, it's a movement to vote in small government advocates instead of career politicians. It's for the people that can see past their next government handout.

It's going to benefit the Democrats most in the short term but it has the potential to make the country stronger in the long term if we can get the politicians to start representing our best interests again instead of looking only at the next election.

Oh i dunno, you get a group of 15-20 reps, and 5-10 senators that aught to be enough to screw up the washington machine. And at least keep them from passing more of the obama agenda... And imo that is a good thing. Do I think they're get anything passed, nope. But at this point nothing is better than what we have now... (part of the genious of the Texas Legislature only meeting once every 2 years lol)

This statement is true. I live in Delaware. Castle is a Delaware Republican (basically a Democrat). There are very few registered Republicans in Delaware and he was 'easy pickins' in the primary for anyone with more conservative views. Won't matter. Democratic challenger, Chris Koons, will win by at least 20% without spending a dollar of the Gore (as in Gore tex) money that is available from his in laws.

I am the tea party.

I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I believe in a strict adherence to the US Constitution. I want smaller, less invasive government. I am NOT a racist. I have a couple links for you. Pick a location and attend a tea party meeting. See for yourself what we are about.

Democrats keep saying they don't fear the Tea Party. If that's the case why do they keep demonizing them? They call Reid's opponent Angle a radical yet it is Reid who just attached a amnesty provision on a defense spending bill that gives ILLEGAL aliens taxpayer subsidized college tuition while LEGAL immigrants and US citizens would have to pay full tuition. Who exactly are the extremists?

Define "smaller, less invasive government". You think the Feds "invade" your territory on a daily basis, yet you have no problems when your local and State governments steal twice as much from you that the Feds ever will. You live in one of the most economically decimated states in the country. You're state government is billions in debt, you furlough or lay off half of your state employees, your school system is one of the worst in the country, and you have local city governments who pay their council and mayor 6-figures salaries in one of the biggest poverty-stricken areas in the state (Bell). You call that "less invasuive?

What exactly is the current administration not adhering to as far as the Constitution? Which of your Constitution rights have been violated? And please don't regurgitate this 10th Amendment argument. That's the Tea Party's Poster Child blanket statement for anything they disagree that the Feds do. Every administartion since Hoover has violated the 10th Amendment in some form or fashion, depending on how you interpret that Amendment.

I wouldn't consider Tea Partyers racist, however I do regard them as what I term "biased extremist". When you have these people claiming Obama isn't a naturalized citizen, that 1 in 6 'Americans' thinks the guy is a radical Muslim, you characterize the guy as a Socialist and wave placards of his likeness with a 'Hitler-style' mustache or a swaztika on it, and your major base of followers are 'Senior-aged Anglos' who scream "Don't force your socilaized medicine on me!" when the majority of them live off of Social Security and Medicare , BOTH SOLCIALIZED GOVERNMENT-FUNDED PROGRAMS.
