I am very puzzled , the sump that I am putting together(30 gal long glass tank) which I want to hook the over flow hose on to the tank with some plex glass type holder should I USE BOTH HOSES TO MY SUMP OR ONE. Is there any problem teeing the over flows to one before entering the sump, and should I use valves on each over flows
thanks

By teeing the together you could be restricting thier flow rate...I would just figure a way to run both hoses into your sump...

If the hose you tee into is larger than the two drain hoses, you shouldn't have a problem with flow restriction. If your drains are 1" hoses and you tee into a 1 1/2" or 2" hose, it will work fine, but if you tee into the same size hose, you will greatly reduce flow.

Just my 2 cents worth to reduce clutter I would tee the overflows from a 1" to a 2 1/2 or 3' that wouuld work fine and cut down the number of pipes and tubes. :)

Can you be aliitle more clear on the tee- you said go from one inch
then 2 1/2 , that means have a 2 1/2 hose going to my sump

if it were me I would take the output from each side of the overflow and connect it to the same diameter pvc then run the pvc into a tee. lets say the output is 1' I would connect to 1' pvc then to a 1' by 2' or 2 1/2 inch tee where the out put is 2' or better that way you don't have a restriction problem and you have 1 pipe dumping into the sump rather than 2 1' tubes dumping in there. just food for thought ;)

It depends on the return pump you're using - compared to the total rate of flow from both overflows.
I would never restrict the drains from an overflow.
I'd do as Salty suggested and just have both running to the sump.
