tell me about "PH"?

Here is my problem, when I check my ph level of my tank, it normally reads 6.5 or 7. Im bit too concern about it, 'cos I know nothing about ph and everyone says that it should be about 8. Ok, can someone tell me,
what this Ph is, and why it goes up and down; and how can I lower the ph level and if its low, or how can I raise it up? Pls help me......

How often are you doing water changes and what brand of salt are you using???

As said above, ph has to do with how acid or alkaline the water quality is. Mostly, for a marine tank, ph should be around 8.2. There are many ph buffering products that you can get at the lfs, or, some old fashion people and cost-minded hobbyist simply use baking soda to raise ph to the proper level...that's right baking soda.
Now, remember, as you raise ph, you need to do this slowly. Your PH is currently rather low. Don't try to achive adequate PH all in one day otherwise the fish will go into shock.

what type of water do you use i find that r.o. has a Ph of around 7 and when i do water changes i have to use a buffer to get it up to a desirable level

I use salt water from the sea, cos sea is very close to where i live and it is very clean. i mean no pollution.
i change my water 20%in every three weeks. but still Ph goes down. i have KW but i have no idea how to use it. and how much my tank would want. but my aquarium does very well. if anyone out there who is interested pls write to me, ill have some pictures send to u. my email is femunu@usa.com
