Tell me about wavemakers

I am in the planning stages for a SPS tank and would like to know about wavemakers. I know the basic concept, they are a timing device that turns multiple powerheads on and off to get random flow. Any information that anyone can give me about good brands to look at, which powerheads to run on them, ect. would be greatly appreciated.
BTW--the tank is going to be a 50 breeder (36x18x18) Thanks.

i personally dont hv one. i know most wavemakers use maxijets to creat alternating currents. most will run about $100-200. the one for the koralias run like $450. the one i am looking at currently looking at is the wavemaker pro by redsea.

We have Wave2K center unit that is going to our 150 this week. It's a wave maker that produces a wave with 8 gallons of water going in and out every 6 seconds.

Does anyone know if you can run maxijets with a sureflow mod in them on a standard wavemaker like a Wavemaster pro? Thanks

Thank you spider. Does anyone know for sure. I have read that some of the mods to the maxijet you can't run on wavemakers.
Also if you can run it on a wavemaker, how many and what size modded maxijets would you guys recommend for a 50 gal SPS tank? Thanks again.

you can run the mods if they have a piece inside that keeps them from reverse rotating when being restarted. i cant remember wich brand mod had that feature. thats the problem with most prop driven power heads like the korlias.
