Tell me about your experiences with buying LR over the net.

Since im just waiting for my tank to get ready, Im looking at things Im going to have to buy. I've never bought LR over the net before. From what I calculate its a little cheaper than around here (the 45-50lb of fiji for $199.99...about $3.99-$4.40 a lb.) Anybody ever done this? were you happy with what you recieved? Just looking for some opinions. Thanks.

i was not at all disappointed, it came when it ws supposed to, and we used it to cycle our tank with(htere will always be some die off in MO
and it was much cheaper
the only advatage i had ot buying locally, was that there was less die off(not important to an uncycled tank IMO), and the fact that i could hand pick my pieces, meaning i was able to choose the exact piece i was getting, and this is real nice, if you are looking for an exact size or shape, but in an epty tank, again you can arrang e based on what you get, it doesn't really matteer if you have ot reconstruct your pile, you are gonna do that a couple of times anyway

hey poisonwell, there was an online add/magazine add for a LFS that delivers LR to you suposedly & @ $3 if you live in DFW area;not sure of the name, but can probably try to track it down again e mail at jakob3001@excite.com
we got the 45-50 lb LR from petwarehouse on special someties for $99 + S&H $0.99 lb (THEY HAD A FIXED RATE) got here on time, but the UPS people screwed it up; box was heavily damgaged; we took pictures or the box & sent w/ e mail to the retailer; they gave us the $99 credit back to the CC account NOT just as store credit

I bought 22lbs. of LR from SWF and was very happy with it. They picked out a variety of sizes and there was some corelline on it. It was cured but there was a little odor from the die off, but the tank quickly cycled (about a week) so the purchase was worth it. HTH

hey kunfu, thanks for posting the reply; that site has a lot of options to choose from; $89 for 45 lbs LR is darn good; only prob as almost always is the S&H fees; petwarehouse sometimes has it for $99; what I like about them is that they have a POSTED flat rate of S&H fees per lb; at last time looked, rate was only $0.99 per lb; wish that site & others followed sute

Just got a shipment today of 45lbs "cured" Prem. Fiji $175/S/H from - Premium Aquatics - had a problem with my order online not showing up on their computer. Called to check status few days later, and had to place order a 2nd time - but they felt bad so they paid to overnite the rock. Had it next day. Very nice pieces - lots of life - will buy from them again.

Hey that live rock in DFW is $#it.. I drove from austin to DFW to look at it with cash in hand for 100lbs.. when I got there the rock was terrible.. and they wanted to sell me some rubble for $7 a pound... I turned around and paid $5.95 for uncured LR. at a LFS it was twice the price.. but I got some very ornate looking pieces with nice caves and holes.. and I got it the day they got it in. I actually had only a very small increase in trates for about 2 day's in my tank before it had finished the cycle.. and it went away after that. I would buy from a LFS. actually I would buy half of it from a respectable online store.. namely SWF.com and the rest from a LFS. I picked through about 200lbs of LR and only found about 60lbs that I liked enough to buy.. I would be weary of a great deal.. there is a reason that everyone charges the same amount for LR. ya kinda have to wonder how someone can cut that price in half... I know LR is a big expense.. but it good LR can actually become your favorite thing to watch... plus your herbivores will love you for it.. :D
