Tell me your thoughts on this

I am thinking about doing a local only either 5 or 10g hex tank. My plan is to get some base rock and submerge it at my dock in a net bag for a month or two so stuff can grow on it and inhabit it, I might even drill some holes to make it more desireable. Then after that, I havent decided on a small puffer and and one of the local blennies or a pair of pipefish. I might go out gigging with my dad one night to see what I can net catch. He says there is all kinds of stuff along the shore attracted by the spotlight. Anyone got any ideas, comments, suggestions or criticisms?

Check your local laws. I have 10g cold tank set up with stuff from the tidepools around here(cali coast). Its been up for a month or two but I recently found that it was illegal to do what i did. So check the laws on that because the beaches might not have signs saying no collecting, I found out that even though some did and some didnt it was against the law at all of them. If its cool then I'd go for it definatly.

I dont know. I know collecting with the intent to sell would be illegal but for personal use is different. Especially since I am on my own property while doing this. I already use snails i got at low tide, literally hundreds of millions of them on the mudflats and in the marshes and thousands within my reach along the sides of the boatramp without getting muddy. They make great algae eaters and I think sand sifters since they disappear during the morning hours. We are allowed to fish off my dock and eat what we catch, I dont see why simply capturing stuff would be any different legally(especially since there is absolutely no economic interest in the handful of critters I grab).
