what temperature is best for corals and fish together?

Most people keep the reef at around 78-80...unless the critter needs cooler or higher temps. Warmer won't hurt them unless it gets really hot, like in the 90s.
Always research anything you are going to keep. That way you will know what the needs are and can make sure all critters can be kept togeher. There are books that give details of what each critter needs to survive. Invest in one for each critter type...inverts, fish and corals. It will become the best buy you ever spent on the hobby.

you're going to get a lot of different responses. Most people will say 80, mine hovers around 81 or 82; which seems to suit my tank. I would recomend an absolute min of 78 and max of 85 with corals.

My tank is 82 and my blue tang is fine...
Most likely yours has issues, post about him in the disease forum.
A scratching fish is not a happy healthy fish. Especially if his scales are coming off!
