Temporary setup for corals

A freind of mine is starting to tear down his 300 gallon reef. He has a lot of really nice peices that I'd like to get. The problem is that I still havn't got my 240 up and running yet. I'd hate to pass on this oppurtinuty. I have 2 tanks that I could put them into temporarily, but the lighting is definatly not up to par, about 1.5 watts per gallon. I could upgrade the lights on these tanks, but it wouldn't be easy as they are ecplise tanks. Could they last a week or 2, under low lighting until I get a couple of hoods, and better lighting? Most of what I'm looking at are mushrooms, and leathers. He does have some really nice peices of acropora as well. I know these will require better lighting. Any other suggestions on temporary setups?

if you decide to do this i would feed the corals some bio-plankton

i dunno stacy, thats a tough one. i would really up the lighting first, before even taking the corals from him. maybe pull the eclipse hood and just set some light fixtures on top of the tank. anythign to get the corals happy!

Thougt about doind that. Maybe just put a peice of plywood with some pc's on it for the time being.
I have a 70 reef, but it's close to being full. I may move all the mushrooms out to the eclipse tanks for the time being to make room for the more demanding corals.

I have a couple thoughts, 1) you could ask him to hold off on tearing down his tank for a couple weeks so that you have time to upgrade your lighting. I don't know if he will go for that of not. 2) Whats your relationship with your LFS? Explain the situation and ask them if they can hold onto some of the corals for a little bit. If you have good relations with them I am sure they will let you. 3) You could set up a couple 10gal tanks with minimal filtration like an aquaclear mini, no substrate, and just throw some lights over those. They would probably hold out for a couple weeks like that.
Tell me if any of those sounded like a good idea.

1. He actually has a few people that are waiting to get some of his peices, but he's letting me have 1st pick. I just want to try to get what I can before anybody else takes the best peices.
2. Actually this guy owns a chain of LFS. He is tearing down his tank to make it an aggressive setup. He is planning on setting up a nice reef at his store, but it is only going to be a 150, so some of his stuff will have to go. The problem with taking anything to his store is that if he's not there one of his employees would probably sell it.
3. Good idea on the 10 gallon. I do have 2 10's setup that I was using as q-tanks. I could easily upgrade the lighting on these. I'll have to keep that in mind.

i woudl pull all the lower light corals (mushrooms, button polyps, star polyps, ets) out of your 72 and into the eclipse tanks and then and put the ones you will be gettign from him in your 72! and definately throw some additional llights on the eclipse tanks. i would just ditch their canopes, and rig up something, maybe with pc's to illuminate them for awhile!

Well I think that I'm going to go the route of moving everything that isn't real light intensive to my 80 gallon eclipse, and rig up some type of pc's lighting for now. Maybe 2X96 watt pc's, and a couple of 2X55 watt pc's. Then I'll put everything else in my 70. We'll see how it goes.

A little off topic but you seem quite knowledgable on corals, are there any corals that Angels won't eat? I know there are some they love but I thought I read somewhere there are some varieties they leave alone
