feed twice a week, silversides and krill are okay, there is not a problem when it comes to lights, yes lots of rock work for comfort, , it depends on what other fish would be added with him and how many gallons he is in right now. i wouldnt feed mollys.

is it good to soak there food in garlic
do you think he would be ok with a purple lobster
right now the only thing he wants to eat is live blue damsels
at the fish store they feed him some big pieces of shrimp form the market but he spit it up as soon as they put him in the bag

I really admire your dedication to your eel. Not that many people are willing to provide live saltwater feeder! They are totally predatory by nature, and they may not accept anything but live food initially. I think it's really good that you're providing him with his natural diet. But, the only problem is it would be costly in the long run. You have to wean him onto nonlive food sooner or later. Once you know he's eating well, try to switch to frozen food using a feeding stick. I hope you do realize they get more than 5 ft in the wild. You might have hard time choosing tankmates later on because they won't last long with tesslatus eel. But, I'm sure you're willing to dedicate the entire tank for your eel. Don't forget to post a picture of him! :)

not trying to start any debates but you may want to avoid silversides and krill for any bottom dwelling aggressive fish such as an eel because the krill for one aren’t vary meaty for an eel that is 18" in the wild he is probably eating fish around an inch - 2" and is probably eating allot more than one
as far as the silversides go they aren’t good for him because silversides like sardines and anchovies are fish that school near the top of the ocean and are rather greasy and can cause oil deposits around the fishes organs which can shorten its life defiantly stay away from the molly’s
the best thing to do is to go up to your local fish store (not live fish but fish for sale as food so like a fish market) and buy large shrimp, clams, squid, and if you really want a happy eel than some octopus because tess. eel's eat allot of octopus in there natural habitat and feed him chunks of this stuff
and if you want to see him hunt and kill a damsel from time to time that wont be to terribly bad but the stuff I listed above will be much better for him in the long run
ps: hope your ready for an aggressive eel
these guys are natural borne killers
good luck

A school of damsels is fine...if you want to keep him in SW fish... !!!!!
Get a variety of stuff at a fish mart/fish section of the grocery store...my tesselata eats everything I give it.
Will it be OK in a 55g? You mean will it live? Sure it will live. Is it a thick 18", or a thin 18"....if it's still thin, and hasn't "bulked" out yet, you'll be OK. (watch me get flamed for that).
Ghost shrimp, silversides, krill...all much too small for your eel.
Will it eat if it's not hungry? No. But they're usually hungry.
I feed mine once a week, a variety of goodies, including the occasional live large FW feeder.

I had a snowflake that loved regular peeled frozen shrimp that me or you wou would buy at the grocery store for our own consumption so try that.
