I found this out the hard way, I got the same type of kit and it was very hard to nail down the exact numbers. Let me tell you, you really get what you pay for with test kits.
After doing some research and hearing what people had to say, I bought a new set of Salifert test kits. I know they are way more expensive, but I am glad I did. they are very acurrate and so easy to read and tell what parameters are. You can get a few good deals on this website and ----. HTH

I tried a whole host of the cheaper test kits before buying the Red Sea Master Test Kit. The Red Sea was just as bad as the other tests I used before that, so now I have settled on Salifert tests and have found them to be fairly accurate.

Salifert is probably the best out there, and if you order a bunch online, the shipping turns out to be inexpensive per kit. The prices on this site are the same price as the cheaper kits that the local LFS sells!

I use the aquarium pharm. kit. It works and is a good value, but next time I will buy something better. Some of the colors are hard to read and the ammonia kit always shows trace ammonia even when there is none. I have had shades of colors that did not come close to matching any of the colors on the chart when testing my new 10gal tank. :hmm

I have the Aquarium Pharmeceuticals Saltwater Liquid Master Test Kit... don't have my tank up yet, but glad to hear it got some good reviews by someone... after I bought it was i saw a couple posts here and there of people complaining how much some kits suck and i was starting to worry.

Overall it's a good kit. It's definitely worth the money. Unless you're looking for absolute specific readouts, it will work fine for most people. I have tested the heck out of my 2 tanks for the past few months and still have plenty of test solution left. One thing I like about the tests is that they have the test solutions in the proper ratios. For the ammonia test you add 8 drops of each of the 2 solutions. I had another kit that required you to add something like 6 drops of one, but 10 drops of the other. I would always have some extra left over when one ran out and would just have to throw it away. :( At least with aqu. pharm. kits, they keep everything balanced.

Well it cost me like $12 or $13 so can't complain about that, I'm thinking I should have gotten the Refractometer instead of a floating hydrometer
