testing for diseases?

Is there any way to test for diseases suck as ich and velvet and what not? Recently disaster struck my DT and all fish got ich, some velvet and some pop eye. It has been a couple weeks since then and everything s back to normal now but I was wondering how long I should wait until I introduce a new fish. (I know the ich is gone so i dont need to hear the same thing about leaving it fishless for weeks.)

Yes, there is an excellent way of ensuring this never happens again. QUARANTINE all new fish. That is the only answer to this problem.
