I've never used it, but when I was thinking of setting up a Tanganyikan cichlid tank up I was going to use it. It is safe to, it will also help keep your ph high which should be good for a SW. Most people use it in FW tanks with fish like African cichlids. As they like hard & alkaline water. I actually believe it is limestone. It looks awsome.

I have about 15 pounds of that holy rock in my reef. It's been in there for about 1 year.
I think it looks great once it gets some algae covering it.

I believe It is safe, I have heard of several sw hobbist using it. But you realize that this should be considered base rock. There is no life in it as of yet. It will take months and months for this to have enough bateria build up in it or on it for it to do any good as far as providing any bio benifit to your tank. You will need to get extra live rock to cover this void. But in time it will be full of life.
