I for one totally agree with that ruling! Parents step up and control what your kids have acess to on the internet. It CAN be done!

GASP!!!!
Heaven forbid a parent actually having to parent their child!
I for one thought all you had to do was sit them in front of a TV with the Teletubbies playing and a Happy Meal in front of them and they'd figure out all of life's lesson's on their own. Silly me.

i agree that parents should know what their kids are doing. i agree that they should control what they do on the web.
problem is--if they did you'd not have people using the internet to meet kids and you wouldn't have Dateline having a hit show week after week.
unfortunately kids are way too smart on the internet and computers in general. most adults don't know half of what kids would know on a computer (and i bet there's a bunch of people nodding their heads now). by taking away the age verification kids are going to have huge access to explicit ---- now :(.

True renogaw. But parents can get educated but fail to do so. They have plenty of resources to get this education from their kids school for one. I am 100% positive that if a parent went to its child's school and asked "how do i put a filter on the home computer so my kid can not acess vulgarities?", they would be sent to 1. the guidance councelor or 2. the librarian to get ALL the info they need and more to protect their child at home.

I think a child is a parent's responsibility. If you don't want your kid doing immoral or stupid stuff, either don't let them get into a situation to do it, or educate them about the consequences. If you can't do that minimum amount of parenting, then you're a bad parent and shouldn't have that responsibility.
I don't see the big deal. You don't want your kid looking at ----, don't give them the opportunity. It'd be intelligent to assume they'll see it eventually though. With or without your approval.

whats the big deal? what harm does it do, really? if a kid is curious and wants to learn about him/herself and people and sexuality? this society makes it so taboo it is rediculous. if he or she really wants to see ----, they will see it, sooner or later, it will happen.
well now that the fire has been set, :::pulls the eject lever:::

I also wanted to clarify that I'm not referring to renogaw or attacking him/her in anyway. It may appear that way and that's not my intention.

windmill i totally agree with you, and didn't take offense or think you were attacking me. its called a conversation :)
i agree that kids will get to ----. i just think that age verification is (was) a great idea. I bet stealing a parent's credit card scared off a bunch of kids though from falsifying their age. btw, i don't think of ---- as vile or immoral either, and i know that kids are having --- at 12 (or earlier :scared: ), but by opening the floodgates to all the ---- sites out there this will take away the parent's ability to teach the kids about it.
what's next btw? the ACLU won a nice battle here calling on the first amendment (somehow, i dont see asking for age verification as a first amendment violation). Next will be asking for photo id is a violation of the right to privacy :(

Easy solution... If you are concerned about what your kids are doing online, dont let them have a computer in the privacy of their room! Put your PC in your family room or some other area where there will be people around when they are using it

Very good indeed, but I think there are so much worse than simple ----. The deviant behavior like snuff films and such would far more disturbing to me to catch on his hard drive than looking at ----.
