The Babies Are Here!!!!!

For about 20 minutes my husband and I were doing our best to catch our male Bangaii who had babies in his mouth. We had taken out lots of live rock and were doing our best to get him to swim around to me so I could scoop him up. Well, to my horror when he got to the corner of the tank he spit out all the babies!!!!!
In a panick we forgot about the father and just started netting all the babies, doing our best not to hurt them. Well the end result was 40 babies in my breeders net!!!
Now comes the hard part, keeping them alive. I wasn't really planning on doing anything, but when I saw the little wiggly things in the father's mouth two days ago, I decided I was going to do my best to save them. I have baby brine shrimp eggs cooking up and I'm doing my best to feed them Cyclops, can't really tell if they are eating just yet as I tried soon after I got them in the breeders net. They may have been to freaked out to eat. I am going to run down to the lfs to see if they have Cyclopeez and try that, will be easier for me to try and get the food ground up even more for the little mouths. Here are some pictures! I'll be happy if I can get at least 5 to survive!!!

That's what I was thinking. As we started to catch more and more babies I was amazed they were all in his mouth. Poor male's jaw must be sore!!!!!

I hope you are right. I'm just worried they are going to start dropping like flies because I don't have any fresh baby brine shrimp for them.
I almost bought a hatchery the other day and started it and I'm kicking myself now.

Mush up some good flake food into small bits. This is a fairly common food for baby fish, is fairly healthy, and doesnt pollute your water too much.
Awesome thread - keep the updates comming!

Here is another picture to give you some perspective on how small they are. But still, 40 babies in that Cardinal's mouth?! Wow!

It's frozen Cylops and they are in little cubes. But when I put them in some water they break up and are VERY tiny. However, I put the word out to the local reefers looking for some baby brine shrimp or Cyclopeez and someone just called saying they have some!!! My husband is on his way to pick some up. This person has Sea Horses so he always has some on hand. So in about an hour my new little babies will have some live brine shrimp to eat!!!
Thank you David from Mesa!!!!

Those are not small. I breed clowns and those are huge compared to clowns. My clowns probably need like 4-6 weeks to be that size. Good luck.

WOW!!! Well, if my two clowns ever breed, maybe I'll get to see for myself.

My husband just came home with some live baby brine shrimp (already vitamin fortified
) and I put some in. The babies ate it right up!!!!
The person gave me a ton of baby shrimp so I feel much better knowing my babies have a better chance of survival.

I'm happy to report I only had two dead babies this morning, I think that is pretty good considering. It was so cute, when I looked into the little breeder net through the glass I saw all these tiny pair of eyes looking back at me. I poured in some brine shrimp and they seemed pretty happy to get it. I call my two breeder pair "sharks" when it's feeding time, because they go after the mysis shrimp as if it's their last meal. Well, their offspring are no different.
Like I said, if I can keep at least 5 of them alive and thriving I'll be happy.
