Cerith IMO if you only had the choice of a single type of snail.
The reason is because they can eat detritus, diatoms, and a few other types of nuisance algae and they can easily reproduce in a captive environment.

IMO have always loved Turbo Snails. They get the job done and they never have done any damage with anything in my tank. But be careful. Snails cant pick them selvs back up when they are up-side-down. So you have to do it manulay.

active scavenger can consume large amounts of detritus, uneaten food, fish waste, and algae. Plus, this species of the Cerithium genus often burrows in your aquarium sand and helps maintain adequate oxygen levels in the substrate.

Ceriths and Nassarius. Some of each are a good grouping. Both shift the sand around. Nassarius eat large amounts of meaty garbage. Ceriths eat a little of everything.

I don't know how good a job they do but I picked up some purple banded trochus and they are my favorite so far. Great shell design and color and a jet black foot is awsome.

I can also suggest you try one or two of the others,(turbos) you just may have your own preference in time. I need to get rid of my emeralds, they keep eating mine ugh!

+3 ceriths. Nass snails are great too. I love my ceriths. They are a good size. They eat a lot of the bad stuff and don't knock everything over in the process.

I have had all the sanil posted and one time or another and I can say without a doubt the Trochus snails are the best. The only down side is they get large.

you know, ive heard this before, but my turbo has fallen over many times and he sticks his whole friggin body out of the shell to flip over, its the most incredible thing ive ever seen.
my turbo really is a "turbo" snail, he can round the outer diameter of my tank in just a minute or two if he is motivated enough.
