The blackout of 2003

I live in Yonkers, about 10 minutes from NYC, and was without power for nearly 24 hours. I have a small apartment, and no generator, so I set an egg timer for 35 minutes, and every 35 minutes for nearly 24 hours, I went to my 55 gal tank and scooped water out and dumped it back in. I did a moderate water change about an hour before the power came back on. Looks like all I lost was one mushroom. I was lucky.
But I have lost faith in my LFS. He has over 10,000 gal of tanks, tons of livestock, etc. He had not chosen to invest in generators. I called Friday morning to find out how he made out -- he lost over half of his livestock.
How irresponsible is that?!? I am sad and angry.

I was being synical - yes, but I think it would be a good things to have - a generator. Especially in a LFS with expensive livestock...

that and that this LFS is really just fish! What about protecting your investment, not to mention caring for the fragile lives you sell! It's enough that they were caught in the first place, then dragged to New York City --
can you tell that as much as I love love love this hobby, I'm conflicted about it?

What a shame... Glad my tank isn't set up yet. I was going to set it up earlier this summer but chose to build my own aquarium stand so I waited. Because I don't have all the tools and space required, I built it at my uncle's place over the span of several weekends and just brought it home yesterday.
It would've been really bad if I'd already started and lost everything.
Even still, I hope everyone else faired ok.

WEll I was without power for... 1 MINUTE! ... at that time my digital timer had reset and I actually had to bend behind my tank and put it back to the original time by simultaneoulsey using two buttons.
Lol Jk (actually happened) but for people who did lose fish I'm sorry. I lost one SWF important animal thusfar in my career and I hated losin it even though I had it for like two weeks. But you guys prob lost fish that yas had for YEARS! Actually I don't think my blackout was caused by the same blackout as yours. I do have relatives who live over that way and ... I forget what i was gonna say. Anyway sorry for ne1's loss.
