The DIY Seaclone upgrade?

I see in another post people talking about this and I would like to know what's all involved. I already got a new air regulator on it. How far do you cut down the center tube? Anything else to do with it? I've had mine for about 3-4 weeks and have got nothing out of it yet. I don't want to just throw the stupid thing away. Although I know some people here would say I should.

The biggest problem with the old seaclones is the darn center tube is just too long. I believe it is recommended to cut the tube down to about 3 to 4 inches in length.
Also the old models came with a 1000 powerhead and this can be upgraded to help the performance also.
I have a newer model and it already has the modifications on it and it works great. It came with the shorter center tube and a 1200 pump.
Do a search with a major search engine for seaclone modifications and you can find some detailed information on what to do.
