So we were at the lfs & we came across this large red hermit crab with white polka dots and hairs on his legs. (u can see where this is going) my hubby immediately fell in love with this lil... Er... Big guy. He reminded me of a kid begging for a new toy... he was just so darn cute offering to make me dinner and clean the kitchen if we could have him. So against my better judgement, we brought fuzzy polka dots, and a spare shell home with us (yes, he named him fuzzy polka dots lol).
Well, hes been with us for about 2 weeks now. He ate a few of my zoos, I got the whole rock for 10 bucks from *****, so I wasnt too upset about it, THEN he decided to evict my favorite turbo snail from his shell and proceeded to eat it. :flame: i guess im glad he destroyed the evidence before I had a bunch of snail snot floating around the tank.
I KNEW I SHOULDNT HAVE CAVED FOR DINNER AND A CLEAN KITCHEN!
Now I cant get rid of him cause the hubby loves to sit & watch his little feelers sniff around for food, it makes him so happy..... Ohhhh, but hes dead meat if he even thinks about touching my duncan! Who wants boiled lobster!!!
Ok, im done, just had to share my frusterations

Haha I might have to! But then id have 2 tanks to take care of cause he just plain doesnt understand salt water... Like when I first got it set up, my tank never went through a cycle (due to established LR & LS) I waited & waited for it to spike even just a smidge, no matter what I put in the tank or how many different tests I did... No spike.... He said I was just paranoid & it would be fine. Though he did happen to be right... He didnt understand what happens in a new tank no matter how many times I explained it :rotfl: im making him sound like a moron, hes really not btw lol. But god, "fuzzy polka dots" is such a pest! In fuzzy's defebse though the new shell choice does look good on him haha... When life gives u lemons....

I have the same crab and I keep him well fed and he hasn't touched my corals sense I first got him about 6 months ago, but I had the same problem at first he ate two nice mushrooms I had and ate the largest turbo snail I had, but he used the turbo snail for a home so i'm guessing the one he had was too small. Hope this helps!

No, I give him pieces of silversides, krill, shrimp, scallops. Usually once or twice a week and he seems good because he'll also eat food the fish miss. Just put the food right infront of him with a feeder stick or the long plastic tongs ( Aquarium Planting Tool). Let me know how ya make out. They really are nice looking and fun to watch they also help with aerating your sand. Good Luck!!!
