THE INVISABLE Q-TANK

WANT A Q-TANK BUT DON'T WANT THE HASSLE OF MAINTAINING A SECOND TANK? I RESENTLY INSTALLED A SUMP ON MY 55 GAL TANK TO PUT THE HEATER, SKIMMER AND CANISTER FILTER IN SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO LOOK AT THEM. I ALSO ADDED SOME LIVE ROCK IN MY SUMP. WHEN I BOUGHT A NEW FISH I TOOK SOME WATER AND THE CANISTER FILTER OUT OF MY SUMP AND PUT IT INTO A COOLER AND I WAS GOOD TO GO. I DID MONITOR THE PH AND AMONIA CLOSELY AT FIRST, BUT BOTH WERE FINE. I ALSO HAVE SPONGE FOAM IN THE SUMP TO STOP AIR BUBBLES FROM BEING SUCKED INTO THE RETURN PUMP, IT PROBABLY HAS GROWN ALOT ON NITRAFYING BACTERIA. THIS COULD ALSO BE DONE WITH A TANK THAT DOESN'T HAVE A SUMP, JUST ADD A SECOND FILTER. OF COARSE I'LL THROUGHLY CLEAN THE CANISTER FILTER BEFORE I PUT IT BACK IN MY MAIN TANK.
ANY THOUGHS ON HOW LONG I SHOULD LEAVE MY NEW MARROON CLOWN IN THE Q-TANK?

At least two weeks. Do you have the clown in the cooler? If you do it kind of defeats the purpose of quarentine because you cant observe the fish for any spots or other ailments, unless it is a see through cooler.
