The Mysterious Dying Coral :o

Hey guys! So my very first coral, a tree coral was growing so much. I went on an over night vacation with my family. Before I left I asked the cleaning lady to turn off the tank lights before she left. When I got back the next day of course she didn't do it lol. But I noticed that my pink, growing tree coral turned gray and shriveled up :O. Then the next day it got worse, until today it was white and was officially DONE. Today none of my corals bloomed. My colony corals only had a few come out and the rest hid. My bubble coral is fine, but my toadstool didn't bloom or my polyps! :O The temp is 80 degrees. I am getting lots of algae though! When I came back I did a 20% water change. Then two days later I did a 10% and it was still as much growing at the same rate. My lights are only on for 5-6 hours. Tonight it was on extra long ( till 8:00 ) cause I had karate. I have a clownfish, and he's totally normal. He loves my toadstool so I feel bad for the little dude. Any advice? My tank size is 25 gal.

First, what are your prams of your tank? It sounds like all your corals are suffering. Second 5-6 hours isn't long enough time for corals, it should be more loke 10 - 12 hours. What type of fixture do you have?

Now that I am analyzing my light time, I have it on from 8-9 in the morning to 7-8 at night. So it's over that time  Do corals hybernate? I know that's a STUPID question but then again, corals are crazy things.

lights should be on for straight length of time 10 - 12 hours at this time the algae in there tissues are growing. At night the just chill and conserve there energy. Do you test your tanks parms? In a reef tank it is very important to know the chemistry of your tank.

Tomorrow my local reef store is open, and I'm all out of my tests cause I used them up. But I did a water change of 30% 4 days ago, so that should keep it normal. My temp is 81 and my salenity is 2.024.

Yep sometimes all a tank needs is a water change to freshen things up. There was probably something chemically out of whack. Having a reef tank you really need all the test kits so you know whats happening, the 5 basics plus iodine, mag. and KH.
