This is my new 30 gallon with a soon to be 20 gallon sump. If anyone has any ideas on how to build the sump I would love to hear them. I am extremely new to building sumps.I also need suggestions on lighting. I am thinking about T5s but I don't know any good brands or anything about watts and stuff. Any other suggestions are welcome.

cool, i wish i had a sump on my 29G.
if you dont want to drill the tank, i would use an overflow box.
And just use a pump to pump the water back up. Your LFS could probably show you better. I didnt understand it till i saw what you had to do in person.
I have 175Ws of MH of my 29. I plan on making it into a SPS tank though.

How much were your lights? And can you keep soft corals and stuff under them or will it be two much light?

Also what kind of powerheads should I get? Would two maxi jet 1200s both with hydroflos be to much?

im not sure about the power heads. I probably need more flow.
Yes you can still keep softies, right now all i have is softies.
They are doing so much better under MH than PCs.
