The nightmare continues...

Ok, here's the story...
I loved my tank. I think saltwater is a great hobby, but I swear I'm cursed.
When I first set up the tank in November the water would not clear up. I had a milennium 2000 filter on a 30gal (LFS recommended). 2 weeks went by and it was still cloudy, so they recommended using one of their Magnum canister filters to clear up the tank. It ran for 30 minutes fine and then exploded spraying 5-10gal on the carpet before I got to it. They then recommended I buy a new filter. The new one worked great (Empereror 280) and cleared up the tank.
It then took about 2.5 months for the tank to cycle. My nitrites would not go down. Finally I put fish in, but I eventually overstocked (lfs said it would be fine) causing a nitrite spike which stressed the fish causing an Ick outbreak which killed all of them.
I've been waiting over a month now and was going to put in a new fish today, but last night the final straw. I woke up at 1am to the sound of a steady stream of water pouring on the living room carpet. I went out not knowing what to expect and saw water pouring off the aquarium stand. I figured my filter had screwed up, but to my surprise there was a crack in the aquarium running from the bottom left corner at a 45degree angle to the top of the tank. At least 7gal of water had already soaked the carpet. I bailed all the water out, took the equipment off and carried the aquarium outside. It took over an hour to clean the carpet.
I'm not sure if I can take the chance of that happening again. Anybody else ever have an aquarium just crack out of the blue like that.
I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

The tank was actually sitting on a large TV stand. It was a completely flat surface. The tank was completely supported. Any ideals?

this is about your water being cloudy; did you ever get the water looking better? If not I think I might have a solution, you might be in this situation, just hear me out. When I first started my tank I had some "professionals" come and set it up for me and stock it. After a few days of merky water I called and asked what was up. They told me to do all kinds of things (new filter, water changes add fish, add LR) after a year of this someone asked me what kind of bulbs I had. This was my problem, the people who set up my tank for me gave me standard flourescent bulbs. So I went to my LFS and got a super daylight and an actinic and the problem was solved. Since then I have upgraded to 12000K MH and it has made a world of difference.
