The Rebuild. Part Duece.

Intro:
I call this part 2, because, this is the 2nd time I had to start over. On my first tank, I bought it used (I should've never done that), and the entire rear seal broke, so now its my tortoises new lil oasis. My second tank broke yesterday, But since I had a FOWLR, I was able to save my 5 fish and my shark...which are now at the LFS. I was cheered up when I brought my fish to the store, and when I opened the styrofoam cooler, and the fishes and the shark weren't even stressed at all, it was like nothing even happened
. Checked on em today, and they are healthy as can be
.
Anyway, let us get to the The Rebuild Part Duece.
While I was eating lunch yesterday, I heard a lil cracking sound, and at first, it didn't phase me, then I heard the sound of high pressured water, and I immediatley looked at my tank, and well, needless to say, I acted fast, I caught 90 gallons of water in various buckets and containers, but I wasn't able to get the rest. After the panic ended, I was able to assess the damage of the tank. Here it is:

As you can see, the disasters epicenter is in the direct middle of the tank. It also destroyed my stand, which caused the tank to bow severly afterward. This tank is now total trash.

Well, today, I went to the Local Pet Store (it's like a everything pet store, not a LFS) where I originally bought the tank, and since it was under warranty, they gave me a new free tank to replace the one I had. So that saved me a lot of stress and money. Next problem was the stand, they helped me out too, they sold me a new stand at cost. $150 for a brand new oak stand
. Here's a pic of the new tank and stand.

I decided to go black on the background of the tank. I thought it would look better than the lack of a background I had before. So at the moment, I have done 3 coats of latex black paint on the rear of the tank, I am going to do 2 more coats and then start the sand. Here's a pic of the old lighting hood on top of the tank w/ the black background. (Metal Halides on a FOWLR
, nothing makes a tank look more natural than metal halides
)

I wil be updating the pics as I get more done. As I plan on pulling an all nighter to get my tank going, expect a lot of progress to be posted shortly, so I will keep everyone updated
.

One kinda neurotic thing that I do is I always re-seal the top of my stands, I don't care if it's brand new from Oceanic, I always apply a thick layer of sealer so that there is minimal chance of a stand getting wet and warping. Wood will sweal up, expand, distort over a period of time. This is really true for all the pine stands. Congrats on the new setup..

I'll be posting more progress pictures tonight, its hard to move a stuff by yourself ><&, and when its that size, you back tends to not like you a few days later. But anyway, its 100% level now, water is added, wet/dry is running, and salt is at 1.024, and its still cloudy...but its gettin there

and for explanation on why it cracked...I have no clue, it was 100% level when it cracked, stand didnt shift or crack, had maybe like 40lbs of live/base rock since it was an agressive tank, and i can remove the custom hood from the top of my tank myself (its like 40lbs), so it wasn't a weight, level, or stand issue. Bought the tank brand new, and it was exactly 4 months old when it did this, so age isnt a factor either. the LFS, the store I bought it from, and myself all came up w/ the conclusion that I got one of those 1/1000 tanks that is defective...just my luck

the 2 fish are already swimming and enjoying the tank...which means I was able to get my tank back up in running in a lil less than 2 weeks. Id like to thank my LFS for takin good care of my fish while my fish were homeless temporarily.

Im in the process of designing a front for the cover and I'm doing research and am going to start a kreisel soon w/ the help of someone at the LFS.

I think the brand of the tank was Leemans(or something like, I can't remember off the top of my head, ill have to find the reciept, and it was 125 gallons, both tanks are/were.

It looks like you may have acclimated 3 fish but then you got hungry, and then one less fish.

Glad you were able to get things back together, a friend of mine had a 140 gallon bust at the seems(acrylic) and they just replaced their carpet, and flooring in both teh living room and kitchen. They did save the fish but the tank was lost.

and heres a quick vid of the tank, showing how active all these lil guys are. and the white stuff floatin in the background is krill, I fed the puffer, and pulled out the camera to get a video of it, the second he saw the camera, he stopped eating and started swimming up and down like he is in the video...what can I say, my puffer loves the camera

and my puffer spitting because he wants attention

Be careful of that Bamboo and the Angel.
Angels seem to love taking the shark's eyes out.
I guess a defense mechanism.

a few people have said that, but so far, I havent had any problems, none of the fish have ever showed any sort of aggression towards the shark, the shark is kinda like a large fish to them, they and acutally, the angel and the maroon seem to use the shark for protection when they are scared...but im still keeping an eye out for any problems (pun intedend)
