Intro:
I call this part 2, because, this is the 2nd time I had to start over. On my first tank, I bought it used (I should've never done that), and the entire rear seal broke, so now its my tortoises new lil oasis. My second tank broke yesterday, But since I had a FOWLR, I was able to save my 5 fish and my shark...which are now at the LFS. I was cheered up when I brought my fish to the store, and when I opened the styrofoam cooler, and the fishes and the shark weren't even stressed at all, it was like nothing even happened
. Checked on em today, and they are healthy as can be
.
Anyway, let us get to the The Rebuild Part Duece.
While I was eating lunch yesterday, I heard a lil cracking sound, and at first, it didn't phase me, then I heard the sound of high pressured water, and I immediatley looked at my tank, and well, needless to say, I acted fast, I caught 90 gallons of water in various buckets and containers, but I wasn't able to get the rest. After the panic ended, I was able to assess the damage of the tank. Here it is:
As you can see, the disasters epicenter is in the direct middle of the tank. It also destroyed my stand, which caused the tank to bow severly afterward. This tank is now total trash.
Well, today, I went to the Local Pet Store (it's like a everything pet store, not a LFS) where I originally bought the tank, and since it was under warranty, they gave me a new free tank to replace the one I had. So that saved me a lot of stress and money. Next problem was the stand, they helped me out too, they sold me a new stand at cost. $150 for a brand new oak stand
. Here's a pic of the new tank and stand.
I decided to go black on the background of the tank. I thought it would look better than the lack of a background I had before. So at the moment, I have done 3 coats of latex black paint on the rear of the tank, I am going to do 2 more coats and then start the sand. Here's a pic of the old lighting hood on top of the tank w/ the black background. (Metal Halides on a FOWLR
, nothing makes a tank look more natural than metal halides
)
I wil be updating the pics as I get more done. As I plan on pulling an all nighter to get my tank going, expect a lot of progress to be posted shortly, so I will keep everyone updated
