the "Skilter"

Not sure if anyone has seen or heard of this device, but it's a combination hang-on filter and a mini protein skimmer. My thoughts are it won't work as well as individuals, but I'm only running a 10 and 30 gallon, and I thought it may help keep my 10 gallon a little cleaner. I'm currently running a Penguin Mini-Biowheel filter on the 10 gallon.
Is a skilter better than a biowheel?

I had one, it was awful, loud and did not do the job it was purchased for... I would never get one again.

I used a skilter 400 for quite some time on a 90g, when I first started saltwater. The protein skimmer really is worthless, its loud, and requires modification to make it even nearly decent.
If you want a decent all-in-one, look into a bak-pak, by cpr.

Crap!!! I used it on my 55 gallon and it was a BIG mistake. Lost a lot of fish probably because of that thing. I may try it on my 10 gallon. Hopefully it may do something except make loud noise and put tons of bubbles in the tank.

You can easily modify it to get rid of the air bubbles and the modification also removes the valve and that quiets it considerably. I HAD the Skilter and even after I went through the trouble of modifying it I realized that the cylinder isn't really tall enough to be an effective protein skimmer.

Yea, I tried the so called "modification" too. You have to buy a air pump, air defuser, and some other stuff. Basically, it is not worth it.

Figure out the money that you would spend on a skilter, then send me a check for that amount, then do something that a slikter can not do, a water change to make your tank look fresh and healthy. ;)
My vote is not to waste the money on the product mentioned, buy more salt and do water changes, overall it will be better for your tank.
